What makes a 100% Beeswax candle?

Did you know some candles labelled 100% Pure beeswax might be blended with other wax and oils?

(Ethically) A candle can be labeled as 100% beeswax when the entirety of the wax is pure beeswax, without any additives such as: soy wax, coconut wax, thinning agents, fillers, softeners, oils or synthetic fragrance.

Natural impurities like pollen remnants, botanical dyes and scents may be added and marketed as 100% beeswax candles, however they are to be disclosed.

Labelling integrity is key. Adding any other wax voids this claim.

Transparency is key, here is what to look for when sourcing a true 100% beeswax candle:

Seek products labeled 100% beeswax to ensure you’re getting a true clean, long lasting burn. Look for the ingredients on the product and even confirm with the company if there are any ingredients that are not listed. Reputable brands will be transparent about the ingredients they use. Another telltale sign is to spot bloom around the outside of the beeswax candle, bloom is a white film that only occurs on 100% beeswax. Another way to tell if you’ve purchased a true 100% beeswax candle is to investigate the burn rate. Beeswax is the longest burning wax on the market. It burns 5x longer than paraffin, 3x longer than soy or coconut and 5x longer than gel.
